Corten steel, also known as weathering steel, is a metal alloy consisting of iron to which copper, silicon, nickel and chromium have been added. Corten steel is covered with a protective rust layer when exposed to the outside air. This natural solid rust layer forms the protection against further corrosion. Corten steel is characterized by its brown-orange rust color and its long life.
