The manufacturing process of Tiffany glass:
Tiffany items shine so beautifully in part because they contain dozens, and in some cases even hundreds, of different pieces of glass: in all the colors of the rainbow. Each cut and ground piece is wrapped with copper foil. After this, the small glass pieces are rubbed with soldering water and soldered together on a mold with soldering tin. This linework of copper foil is part of the mostly lush motifs on the lamps. A process that cannot be done with plastic!
The brazed copper is then patinated black. This gives it the classic and antique distinctive color. As a final step, the material is sprayed with an antioxidant to fix and protect it. This special Tiffany technique, the soldered tin that encloses the glass pieces, makes the glass sound dull when tapped.
