This statue is made of the best bronze, with a very high copper content.
An esculape is a symbol of a staff surrounded by a wrung snake that represents the emblem of physicians. It is a reminder of Asclepius, the Ancient Greek god of medicine. The deeper meaning of esculaap is the annual molting of the snake, which may represent rejuvenation.
