Willow species for basket weaving
|
For good basketry, not every willow is equally suitable. What matters are long, one-year-old, preferably unbranched rods with the right mix of flexibility, strength and surface. If you want to know which willow fits basket weaving best, it helps to look at the differences between basket willow, purple willow, almond willow, as well as some forms of white willow and crack willow. Depending on whether you want to make fine baskets, coarser weaves or decorative objects, the requirements for the material also change.
