This tin macaw was completely hand cut, beaten out, soldered and then given various colors, and mother of pearl was used for a beautiful color effect. Pearl is an organic shell material usually found on the inside of many types of large shells. In each shell type, the thickness of the nacre is different.
The nacre is produced by the shellfish through epithelial cells. The nacre is produced in order to provide a smooth surface for the shellfish, and for warding off parasites.
When a shellfish suffers from a parasite for a longer period of time, it will constantly produce pearl, which may eventually form a pearl.
