sheepskin

Buy a sheepskin? A sheepskin can be a true enrichment for your interior. Having a sheepskin not only looks nice and cozy, but it can be used in multiple ways. This can vary from a warm rug to decoration and from a warm blanket to a nice place for your pet. Before a hide is sold, it first undergoes a tanning process. How does this work? What else can you use a sheepskin for? And why is it better to buy a sheepskin instead of a synthetic variant?

How does the sheep skin tanning process work?

Tanning the skin of a sheep preserves the natural properties of the product. As a result, the product lasts a long time and the quality of the skin remains high, even in the longer term. The sheep skins are by-products from slaughterhouses, which means that the animals did not have to suffer unnecessarily for the production of sheepskin products and that no sheep are killed for their skin.

The raw furs are preserved in brine before the fur is washed extensively with soap and water. The bacteria are then killed by immersing the furs in a mixture of acid, salt and fat. Most moisture is squeezed out of the fur with a machine, after which the fur is left to dry for several days. Finally, the skin is stretched, sanded, combed and ironed.

Sheep skin is a natural and sustainable product

When you use sheepskin products, you know that you are dealing with a natural and sustainable product. Because no synthetic additives are used, you simply contribute to a better environment. Natural sheepskin products give off a natural, pleasant warmth, but at the same time can breathe due to the structure. This means that an unpleasant, sweaty feeling is less likely to arise than with plastic alternatives. With proper maintenance, the skin can last for a very long time, without losing quality.

The many uses of a sheepskin

A sheep's coat can be used in many ways. In addition to carpets and decorative products, such furs also have a therapeutic effect. People who are bedridden and lie on a sheepskin generally experience fewer complaints such as pain and bedsores than people who lie on a synthetic surface. But also as a pillow or as a blanket on cold winter evenings, the hides are an ideal way to stay nice and warm.

Why buy a sheepskin?

Buying a sheepskin has several advantages. The fur gives your home a natural atmosphere and because the furs are available in various colors and sizes, there is a suitable fur for every interior. You can save on your heating costs in cold days by heating yourself in a natural way. Reduce pain in yourself or your pet by choosing a fur as a surface. In addition, it also feels wonderfully soft. Important details you need to know

  • All skins and furs are personally checked by us regarding origin and nature-friendly processing
  • Everything is pure nature
  • Everything 100% top quality
  • Lots to see in our business
  • Coats are super dense with regard to the wool, supple, odorless (everything only smells like leather)
  • Babycare coats are coats that have been tanned in such a way that they can be washed. They also offer a solution for people with, for example, pressure ulcers
  • Hides, especially cowhides: very durable, natural atmosphere in the house, also beautiful as wall decoration. Reindeer skins super warm on the feet
  • No animal is killed for only the skin or fur, everything is a residual product from butcher shops of healthy animals
  • Our furs and hides are not tanned with chemicals with heavy metals like the stunters on the market (eg IKEA), only a nature-friendly process that is admittedly much more complex and requires many more actions
  • Almost all our sheepskins come from NL
  • No merchandise from obscure countries such as the Eastern Bloc countries whose origins cannot be traced and where they have no regard for the environment.
